Even animals on the farm need a doctor when they get sick. There are special doctors for animals called veterinarians. There are even special vets that help farm animals!

Vets have to go to college for a long time to learn all about taking care of animals. They need to learn how to treat different sicknesses and how to make sure the animals stay healthy.

When an animal is sick, vets examine it to find out why. They look for clues in the way an animal looks, acts, and smells. Sometimes animals get sick from something it ate, and sometimes it is from another animal.

Vets who work with large animals often work outside in all kinds of weather. Sometimes they have to work in the rain. The vets will give the animals a check-up or help the animals have a baby.

Some large animal vets will come to your house to help you with your animals because you can’t move the farm animals very easily. Your pet is probably small enough that you can take it to the vet’s office. Sometimes a farm animal vet will have their own office with really big equipment.
