Nutrition and Food Safety – Table Directions

 

 

Task:  Make a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet of your goal intake.  Follow the step-by-step directions very carefully and create the table exactly as

 

Basics

1.      Open up the program, Microsoft Excel. 

2.      Make a table 12 rows by 7 columns, by sectioning off the 84 squares and putting a thick, black boarder around them all. 

3.      In the first row and fourth column, title the table Nutrition Log. 

4.      Center the title in the row.

5.      Make it bold and size 16 font.

6.      Color the background of the whole first row light gray.

 

Save

7.      Before you continue, save your document where your teacher has designated a location.

 

Left Headings

8.      Starting on the third row of the table, in the first column, list the 5 food categories, with each one on a different row.   This will take up rows 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7.

9.      Fill in each cell background with the appropriate color from the food guide pyramid.

10. Skip a row in the same column.

11. Write Oils in the 10th row in the first column. 

12. Color the background of the cell for oils yellow.

13. Type Extra Calories in the row below that.

14. Skip a row, and write Total Calories in the last row of your table. 

15. These should all be bolded and size 12 font.

 

Top Headings

16. In the second row of the second column, write the title Daily Goal Amount.

17. To the right of that, in the same row but the next column over, title it Achieved % Day 1.

18. To the right of that, in the fourth column, title that Difference % Day 1.

19. To the right of that, in the same row but the next column over, title it Achieved % Day 2.

20. To the right of that, in the sixth column, title that Difference % Day 2.

21. The last column in the table should be titled Average % Achieved.

22. All the titles in row 2 should all be size 11 font, and bolded.

23. Highlight all of row 2.  Select “wrap text” from the Format drop-down menu, Cells option.  Select the second tab named, “alignment.”  Then click the “wrap text” box.  Then click “OKAY” to apply it to the table. 

24. Be sure to adjust the columns to be wide enough to read all of the words.

 

 

Final Details

25. Create boarder lines between each column and row, by using the settings in the formatting tool bar.

26. Once you have finished, print out your table and compare it to the model your teacher has. 

27. Make any corrections necessary until it matches it completely.
